Summer R. Naegel, age 46, of Liberty Township, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026, after a courageous 10-year battle with breast cancer. Born June 21, 1979, in San Diego, California, Summer was the daughter of Cheryle Edwards Kimble and the late James Kimble. Summer graduated from Evangel University, where she excelled as both a second baseman and pitcher on the women’s softball team. She became the university’s first NAIA All-American softball player and earned two-time NAIA All-American honors in 1999 and 2001. In recognition of her outstanding athletic achievements, she was inducted into the university’s Hall of Fame in 2010. Summer built a successful career in broadcast news, working as a Newscast Director for KGTV in San Diego and later for WCPO 9 News in Cincinnati. She especially loved every opportunity to operate the camera aboard the station’s news helicopter. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Summer embraced life with passion and personality. She could quote nearly every episode of The Big Bang Theory, never passed up a cold fountain Dr Pepper, and had a deep love for Mexican food, alternative music, and especially The Smashing Pumpkins. Fall was her favorite season, as she loved watching the leaves change color, and Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday. Her favorite movies were Top Gun and Dirty Dancing. Summer also found great joy in coaching softball and soccer. She loved encouraging young women to compete, grow, and achieve goals both on and off the field. Coaching softball, in particular, brought her immense pride and fulfillment. There was never a goal Summer set for herself that she did not achieve. Above all else, Summer was most proud of her children and the kind, intelligent, and driven individuals they have become. Summer is survived by her loving mother, Cheryle Kimble; her devoted husband, Michael Naegel; her children, Cameron Naegel, Colton Naegel, and Ashlynn Naegel; her siblings, Thomas (Thomasita) Kimble, Seth Kimble, and Hannah Kimble; her in-laws, Ellen and Thomas Courtright and Richard (Jean) Naegel; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, James Kimble; and her brothers, James Kimble Jr. and Mathew Kimble. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 PM. Arrangements are being handled by The Webster Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared with the family through the funeral home website.
