Nathan Marcum

Nathan N. Marcum, age 89, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, surrounded by family, and holding the hand of his best friend of 73 years, his devoted wife, Mary. He was born on June 17, 1937, in Clay County, Kentucky, the son of the late Virgil and Pauline (née Hix) Marcum.

Nathan was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, became a member of Washington Lodge #17 in 1977, and retired from the United States Postal Service after more than 30 years of service.

If asked what he'd been up to, Nathan would always reply "as little as possible." This was the furthest thing from the truth. He built a life anchored in hard work, generosity, and keeping his promises. Known for a deep and lifelong love of his wife (and her home cooking), an unwavering devotion to his family, a remarkable work ethic and his seemingly limitless strength, he earned the respect and admiration of all who knew him. His extensive knowledge of geography and history served him well throughout his lifetime, and sparked a passion for fishing, camping, and traveling that he shared with family and friends, creating memories that will always be cherished.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary V. Marcum; daughter, Shantay Marcum; son-in-law Joseph Fishwick; grandson, Bill Baird; and four siblings, Thurman (the late Lonnie) Marcum, Don (Marie) Marcum, Ada King, and Patricia Marcum. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends.

In addition to his parents, Nathan was preceded in death by his daughter, Sonzaray Baird, and his sister, Edith Smith.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 3080 Homeward Way at Route 4, Fairfield, Ohio, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Masonic Service at 11:15 a.m. The funeral service will immediately follow, with Pastor Kris Theobald officiating.
