John W. Sergent Jr.

We rejoice in knowing that John W. Sergent, Jr. has gone home to be with the Lord and is now reunited in Heaven with the loved ones who went before him. While our hearts feel the deep ache of his absence, we take comfort in knowing he lived a long, full, and blessed life—one marked by love and hard work. John W. Sergent, Jr., age 95, of Hamilton, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 22nd, 2025. Born on May 9th, 1930 in London, Kentucky, he was the beloved son of the late John W. Sergent, Sr. and Susie (Bruner) Sergent. On September 18th, 1954, he married the love of his life, Mary Faye Lyttle, and together they shared 46 beautiful years of marriage until her passing in 2001. John began his career with the Fisher Body Division of General Motors in 1952 and retired in 1987. For the next 38 years, he enjoyed a well-earned and happy retirement. Known as the original “jack of all trades,” he shared his knowledge and skills with his family—teaching his children how to work on cars, plumbing, and electrical projects, with both patience and pride. He was a true sports enthusiast who loved cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, and he found joy in gardening, attending church, and gathering with family—especially around his birthday and Christmas. These moments brought him—and all of us—great joy. John leaves behind a loving legacy through his family: two sons, Larry John (the late Donna-Peterson) Sergent and Danny Lee (Kathy) Sergent; grandchildren Charity (Jim) Schultz, Kara Sergent, Bethany (Samson) Sergent-Kim, Felicia (Rob) Gabbard, and Brittany Sergent; eight cherished great-grandchildren; and one dear brother, Carl Sergent, Sr. He is now reunited in eternal peace with his siblings Pearl Sergent, Dave Sergent, Eugene Sergent, Ruby Hampton, and Ruth Rogers, his granddaughter Angela (Stephen) Lasch, and three great-grandchildren—Noah, Kayley, and Hannah. Visitation will be held at THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME in Fairfield on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 12:00 PM.
