John Charles Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on December 29, 1939, in Laurel County, Kentucky, John lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
John was the son of William Taylor and Maxie Johnson, who instilled in him the values of hard work and community. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Mattie Katie Johnson and siblings: Robert Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, Roy Johnson, James Johnson, Denver Johnson, Ethel Bailey, and infant Shirley Johnson. Their memories and spirits will continue to live on in the hearts of those who remember them. John is survived by his two devoted sons, Charles Dean Johnson and his wife Yvette, and Roger Dale Johnson and his wife Antoinette. He shared a special bond with his siblings, including his brother Eddie Johnson of London, Kentucky, brother Dillard Johnson and his wife Becky, also from London, Kentucky, sister Linda Philpot and her husband Michael of London, Kentucky, and sister Judy Kladis of Braidwood, Illinois. Together, they formed a close-knit family that supported one another through all of life’s ups and downs. As a proud grandfather, John adored his grandchildren: Brandon Johnson, Christopher Gorman, Tonya Whitlock, JT Johnson, and Skylar Johnson. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Anica Johnson, Remi Johnson, Hannah Whitlock, Chloe Whitlock, and Ainsley Whitlock as well as 1 great-great-grandchild, who brought immense joy to his life. Also, survived by parents of Antoinette; Thomas V. JR and wife Christine Gorman. John enjoyed a fulfilling career, having retired from Avon, where he dedicated many years of service. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all he did. In his retirement, John embraced his passions, particularly gardening, which brought him great peace and satisfaction. He loved spending time with family, friends, and his beloved cats, particularly Bootsie, creating lasting memories with those he cherished most.
John's life will be celebrated on Friday December 12, 2025 at THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, Fairfield with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor his life and legacy, sharing stories and laughter as they reflect on the profound impact he had on their lives.
Though John is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
