John “Bear Hunter” Chapman age 81 of Fairfield Township passed away on Thursday January 19, 2023. He was born in Mingo County, WV on June 9, 1941 the son of the late Walter and Genevieve (nee Roberts) Chapman. John was a veteran of The United States Army. He was a member of the Green Berets and 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles” and achieved the Parachute Badge, Air Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. John was a proud veteran and was honored to serve his country. For many decades John was owner and operator of H & R Heating Company as well as a hunting guide in Canada taking people into the bush to hunt bear. He is survived by his two closest children Sheila Chapman and John (Amanda) Chapman; four grandchildren Tyler Chapman, Christopher Chapman, Adelyn Chapman, and Bentley Chapman; and one sister Linda (the late Douglas) Cobb. He also leaves behind many other family members and close friends. Visitation will be on Tuesday January 31, 2023 at THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 3080 Homeward Way at Rt. 4, Fairfield from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral at 11:00AM with Pastor Barry Wilson officiating.
