Joan Carol Gorney

Joan Carol Gorney, age 78, passed away suddenly on March 2, 2021 in Fairfield, OH. She was born in East Chicago, Indiana on December 1, 1942 to Michael and Julia (Baron) Fary. On June 26, 1965, Joan married Robert Dean Gorney in East Chicago, Indiana. They resided in Griffith, Indiana for 10 years followed by residency in Worthington, OH; East Brunswick, NJ; Waldorf, MD; Conway, SC and Fairfield, OH. Joan was known for her joy, enthusiasm, hospitality, generosity, faith and love for family and friends. She faithfully served in the Catholic church in various ministries throughout the years from teaching the children, Adoration, volunteering in the office to her and Bob being Pre-Cana mentors. She loved to host guests in their home and was an excellent cook! Joan was very generous and loved to bless others with gifts. It brought her great joy to give. In recent years, Joan and Bob became involved in Bible studies in their church and their love for Jesus and their faith grew. They would do daily Bible devotions and prayer together. Joan was very organized and liked to be prepared. She prepared for her death by placing her faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of her sins and living her life for Him. Her family can have peace knowing she is in heaven. Joan received a teaching degree from Indiana University, but her main devotion was to her family. She made sure she took care of her husband and children and was available for them. As the children grew, Joan planned special vacations for the family and hosted holidays to create an environment where family relationships could grow and memories could be created. Those memories are precious especially now. Joan liked to celebrate and she would want those who knew and loved her to remember the special times they had together. Joan is survived by her husband, Robert Gorney; children Deb and (Robb) Miller, Bob and (Janet) Gorney and Amy and (Michael) Higgins; grandchildren Bobby Gorney, Allie and (Rocky) McGuire, Amber Gorney, David Higgins and Cole Gorney; brother Mike and (Mary) Fary; sister-in law Pat Hanshew, brother-in-law Dennis and (Linda) Gorney, sister-in-law Barb Gorney many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Julia Fary; brother-in-law Don Gorney, and sister-in-law Joan (Pete) Kouros. A Funeral Mass for family will take place at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 12191 Mill Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45240 on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Due to concerns with the spread of COVID-19, the Mass will not be open to the public. Burial of ashes will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens 8178 Cline Ave, Crown Point, IN 46307 at a date and time to be determined.
