Ernest Wayne Rouse affectionately known as Ernie of Fairfield passed away at age 75 on Sunday July 20, 2025. He was born in the quiet town of Osgood, IN on November 18, 1949 the son of the late Harvey and Evelyn (nee Lakeman) Rouse. Ernie was a proud veteran of the United States Army. His life was marked by love, laughter, and a deep commitment to his family. On July 2, 1971 Ernie married his beloved wife Linda Schaub, and together they embarked on a 54-year journey filled with joy, challenges, and a shared love of their three beautiful children. Their family was the center of their world, and they devoted themselves to nurturing and supporting each other. Ernie was a glassman by trade, spending his career at Lindenwald, Crecraft, and Schofield Glass Companies. Known for his generosity and willingness to help, Ernie was the go-to person for anyone in need. His kindness was matched only by his sense of humor. Even on his final day, he managed to surprise his hospice nurse with a playful “boo”, a testament to his mischievous spirit. Beyond his work, Ernie had a passion for cars and fishing. He cherished the days spent tinkering with engines and the moments when he could take his kids on fishing trips. Though he might have been a bit too enthusiastic, often startling his children with his excitement when he caught a fish. Ernie leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. His devoted wife, Linda, his daughters Melissa Troup and Sharilyn Rouse, and his son-in-law Mark Troup as well as his sister-in-law Sandy Neal, will deeply miss him. His seven grandchildren Alexis, Rayden, Milo, Monty, Ryder, Caprice, and Matilda, will carry forward the memories of their loving grandfather. He is also survived by his sisters Alice Kuykendall and Diana Callihan. Ernie was also preceded in death by his son Ernest Wayne Rouse II, his parents, sister Carolyn and brothers Dale, Clinton, and Rickie. His memory will forever be cherished by those who lives he touched.
