Eileen Edmonston

September 29, 1938 — October 26, 2023

Eileen Mary Fasse Edmonston, age 85, was born to Harry and Mildred Fasse on September 29,
1938 in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. The oldest of three, Eileen greatly enjoyed life with brother
Jerry and sister Jeannie. Eileen attended St. Thomas High School before attending Saint
Elizabeth’s Hospital of Covington School of Nursing. Eileen met her future husband while still in
nursing school on a blind date. Apparently, the pairing worked as the couple were married for
60 years before Jim was called to heaven. This lifelong partnership produced five children:
Michelle (Denny) Ray, Craig (Candy) Edmonston, Alyssa (Bill) Nagel, Keith (Niki) Edmonston, and
Kristyn (Phillip) Sullivan. Her children gave her 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Eileen lived her life according to her. We were all along for the ride, and it was wonderful.
When Jim and her left the country for the first time, the start of their lives as world travelers, it
was because she decided that she had raised her kids well enough that it was time for them to
follow their dreams. Over the course of the next 40 years, they made it to every continent
except Antarctica and saw everything she had dreamed of since childhood. She let nothing stop
her, whether it was cancer or the uncertainty of the world. She just did, and that will always be
our memory of her.
Every family has their center and our mother was ours. She was the planner, the financier, the
mediator, and the healer. Family vacations with 5 children are no easy task, but we all knew
that we would go somewhere every summer, usually a couple of states away. She budgeted it,
scrimped and saved all year, and then gave us experiences that helped shape who we are. We
could call at any time with the vaguest of descriptions and she would produce a diagnosis and
tell you what to do about it. If she didn’t have anything right at the moment, you could expect a
call sometime in the next few days with her telling you what to do to fix it. If you had an issue,
you could call her and know she would tell you her opinion, even if it wasn’t very helpful to the
situation or remotely close to what you wanted to hear. But that voice was our mom, and no
matter what she said, it was mom. And mom’s words mattered. We know she is with dad now,
and in that we take comfort in knowing she achieved, she lived, and she gave us kids
everything.
