He was born 12/4/1933 to John and Nettie McGoron, he was the youngest of 3 boys and grew up in Evanston. As the youngest, he became a blend of charm, independence and resilience. He developed strong social skills and became a "good manipulator" or "expert negotiator" to get what he needed/wanted among older & stronger siblings. He met Janet, the love of his life, in sixth grade at the crosswalk at Evanston Elementary, she had other streets she could cross, but always went out of her way to have him as her crosswalk guard. They started dating in 8th grade, they both graduated from Withrow High School and got married a year after high school. They were married for 70 years and together for 76 years. Janet preceded Dan in death on June 22, 2024. He is survived by his three children, Mark (Therese) McGoron, Mike (Sue) McGoron, and Lori (Jeff) Philpot; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Dan had various jobs throughout his life time. He sold papers at the corner of Dana and Montgomery Road and worked as an orderly at Christ Hospital. He worked in the back office at C&I (Chemical& Industrial) Plant construction company (designing, engineering, and building plant machines) for 5 years. Then he landed a job at P&G working in the purchasing department where he utilized and perfected his negotiation skills. He retired after 27 years of service. He loved to play baseball in his younger years and softball in his older years. He played High School baseball and got cut from the football team due to his size. He was a Deacon at Silverton & Silverwood Presbyterian Church. He was Boy Scout Leader that was affiliated with the church and he coached the church softball team. He was very social, loved to water ski, walk Landen Lake and play cards. My parents loved to travel with their new found friendships from church and our relatives. When we were younger, we cruised with that Nimrod camper following us. We camped in most of the southwest states throughout our childhood in the summertime. They also cruised the Caribbean, visited Ireland; and loved to boat at Clear Lake in Indiana. They always looked forward to the annual camping at Levi Jackson State Park and loved to go to Myrtle Beach twice a year. His favorite saying on trips was "it's 5 o'clock somewhere." My parents were always supportive of their kids and grandkids love of sports. They attended as many games and meets as they could. He loved to "milk the mouse" with all kids. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we hold dear. We see his influence in the way we approach challenges, in the values we strive to uphold, and in the love we share with my own family. Dad, thank you for everything. Thank you for your guidance, your laughter, and your unwavering belief in us. Thank you for being our hero. We promise to carry your love and your lessons with us always, and to honor your memory by living a life that would make you proud. We love you, Dad. You will always be in-our hearts. Rest peacefully. Special Note: We sincerely want to thank all of dad's nurses and aides at Mason Christian Village. They are truly an amazing group of kind, caring, and dedicated caregivers. It was a wonderful blessing knowing "Dan the Man" was loved and cared for at all times. Thank you.
